Apple TV+ has locked in a return date for its gritty crime thriller Criminal Record, confirming that Season 2 will premiere on Wednesday, April 22, as the London-set series raises the stakes with a politically charged murder and a looming terror threat.
The streaming service made the announcement on Wednesday, January 28, alongside the release of a first-look image from the new season. The update confirms that episodes will roll out weekly, with the Season 2 finale scheduled for Wednesday, June 10.
The series once again centers on the volatile relationship between Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty, played by Peter Capaldi, and Detective Sergeant June Lenker, portrayed by Cush Jumbo. In Season 1, the pair were locked in a tense battle over a disputed murder conviction—she a rising officer challenging the system, he a powerful veteran intent on protecting his reputation. Season 2 shifts that dynamic, forcing the rivals into an uneasy partnership.
Set in contemporary London, the new season opens with a killing that immediately reverberates beyond a single crime scene. According to Apple TV, “When a young man is stabbed to death at a political rally, rival police officers June Lenker and Daniel Hegarty are forced into an uneasy alliance. But what starts as a hunt for a murderer escalates into an undercover operation to foil a Far-Right bomb plot in the heart of London.”
Capaldi and Jumbo are joined once again by Shaun Dooley, Stephen Campbell Moore, and Charlie Creed-Miles. New cast additions this season include Dustin Demri-Burns, Luca Pasqualino, Luther Ford, Lyndsey Marshall, and Peter Sullivan, expanding the show’s ensemble as the investigation widens.
Criminal Record is created by Paul Rutman and produced for Apple TV+ by Tod Productions and STV Studios. Executive producers include Rutman, Elaine Collins, Capaldi, and Jumbo. The new season is directed by Ben A. Williams and Joelle Mae David.
As of now, Apple TV+ has not released a trailer for Season 2.
